I am a Senior Research
Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, where I am Professor of English
and Comparative Literature. I write mostly about the relationship
between classical literature and the Renaissance in Britain and
Europe. I also review a wide range of books (contemporary poetry,
translations, novels, works of literary criticism) for the
London
Review of Books.
My latest book is
Imitating Authors:
Plato to Futurity. This is a study of both the theory
and the practice of how authors have imitated other authors, from
ancient Greece, through the age of intellectual property, and on to
the age of Artificial Intelligence.
